INXS (pronounced "in excess") was an Australian rock band formed in 1977 as the Farriss Brothers. The lineup included Garry Gary Beers, Andrew, Jon, and Tim Farriss, Michael Hutchence, and Kirk Pengilly. Hutchence, known for his magnetic stage presence, fronted the band for 20 years. Initially, they were known for new wave/pop, later evolving into a harder pub rock style with funk and dance elements.
